Bill Bailey Tickets

Bailey has been performing stand-up comedy since the mid-1980s, developing his unique stage persona and whimsically surreal style through tours in partnership with Toby Longworth and Martin Stubbs before performing a show called Rock with Sean Lock at the 1994 Edinburgh Fringe Festival and returning the next year with a solo show. He was nominated for the Perrier Comedy Award in 1996 but was narrowly beaten by his future Black Books co-star Dylan Moran. Nevertheless, his nomination prompted the BBC to give him his own show in 1998 – although it wasn’t recommissioned, he has continued to appear on television as himself on panel games such as Have I Got News For You, QI, Room 101 and notably as a team captain for six years on Never Mind The Buzzcocks. However, he has also ventured into dramas and comedies, including cameos in Spaced, Jonathan Creek, Skins, Hustle and Doctor Who, with his biggest role to date playing the role of put-upon bookshop assistant Manny in Black Books, which was created by Dylan Moran and Graham Linehan and also starred Moran and Tamsin Greig. Bailey’s success in TV meant that his reputation as a stand-up increased quickly, and he soon came to be known for the musical parts of his act, as highlighted in his DVDs Part Troll, Tinselworm and Dandelion Mind. He is a talented guitarist and advanced pianist with a love of all genres of music, especially metal, which he was able to indulge when he headlined the second stage at the 2011 Sonisphere Festival.
